You can take Salvia in several different ways. Smoking Salvia will definitely give the best effects. However, Salvia divinorum can also be taken orally. The effects will be less strong though.
SALVIA: SMOKING
The following dosages are recommend. However, each person can react differently to salvinorin so it’s advised to start with a low dosage and gradually up the dose if you’ve gotten to know what the effects Salvia divinorum will have on you.
Salvia leaves: | ¼ gram – 1 gram |
Salvia extract 5x: | 0.1 – 0.3 gram |
Salvia extract 10x: | 0.05 – 0.15 gram |
Salvia extract 15x: | 0.03 – 0.1 gram |
Salvia extract 20x: | 0.025 – 0.075 gram |
Salvia extract 40x: | 0.012 – 0.037 gram |
Now you might wonder what 5x or 10x stands for. Without going to deep into the matter of how an extract is produced it’s actually quite easy to explain. The most easy to explain is by taking the 10x as an example. Imagine you have 1000 grams of Salvia leaves and you make this into a 10x extract. This will leave you with 100 grams of Salvia extract. Another example will be the 20x, if you’d take 1000 grams of Salvia leaves and turn it into a 20x extract then you will be left with 50 grams of extract.
The Salvorin in an extract will be more concentrated so you’ll need less for the same effects. That’s why it’s always best to consider the dosage before taking a strong extract!
It’s not recommendable to smoke Salvia in a joint. This will have very little effects. It’s best to smoke Salvia using a (water-cooled) bong or using a large pipe. A bong is recommended since the smoke can be quite harsh on the lungs and airways and that’s why a water-cooled bong is preferred. When the Salvia is added to the bowl of a bong it’s preferred to burn it with a torch lighter for best combustion. Fill the bong up with the thick yellowish smoke and then inhale. Try to inhale all smoke and keep it in your lungs for about 15 to 25 seconds. It’s very important to keep the smoke in your lungs for as long as possible. It won’t be easy to keep this smoke in your lungs because it’s quite sharp but it will give you the best effects when you succeed doing this. If you don’t feel effects after the first time then keep repeating the process for up to 5 times.
SALVIA: ORAL USE
Keep in mind that oral ingestion of Salvia isn’t really effective. You can however choose to make a quid of about 8 to 20 fresh Salvia leaves or 3 to 8 grams of dried Salvia leaves. Put the quid in water and leave it there for up to 15 minutes. Then take it out and gently start chewing it. It won’t have a good taste and is often described as being very bitter. Sweetening the quid with a bit of honey can improve the taste a bit.
Keep in mind that swallowing won’t give you any effects. So make sure the juice coming out from the leaves isn’t swallowed. Try to keep it in your mouth for as long as possible since it’s your salivary glands which need to absorb the salvinorin. Try to keep the quid in your mouth for half an hour and try not to swallow or spit the juices during this time. After about 15 minutes you’ll feel the first weak effects and after 30 minutes you take the quid out of your mouth and effects should be noticeable. They will last for up to an hour and some people claim even two hours but than gradually fade.
